Artist Statement

When two people learn each other deeply, there’s something unique that the pair brings out from one another, unlike the next, distinct pair. Through my portraits, I hope to display my connection to my subjects, and go further to encourage a new thread, a new feeling, between the viewer and the subject. All of my work to date focuses on my closest friends and relatives, which allows me to carry a depth into the picture.

In sharp contrast to the historical, perfected portraits so common in museums globally, my work uses the full range of color to bring subjects to life in order to tell their deeper story.

To date I’ve used acrylic paints on canvas, but am seeking an opportunity to experiment with oil on panel and push further into using color to stir up emotion in portraiture.
